About Veracruz All Natural
Veracruz All Natural started as a single food truck on East Cesar Chavez Street in 2008. Sisters Reyna and Maritza Vazquez brought their family's recipes from Veracruz, Mexico and built what many Austinites consider the definitive breakfast taco β a handmade corn tortilla packed with fresh, simple ingredients and finished with house-made salsa. The migas taco alone has a devoted following.
The brand has grown to multiple Austin locations β a food truck and brick-and-mortar spots across East Austin, South Austin, and beyond β but the approach remains the same: fresh corn masa, quality ingredients, honest cooking. It's one of the few Austin restaurants that regulars will wake up early to visit, and the lines move fast.
Gluten-Free Dining at Veracruz All Natural
Veracruz All Natural is one of the best naturally GF-friendly restaurants in Austin β all tortillas are made from 100% corn masa, not wheat flour. This isn't a special accommodation; it's the foundation of their entire concept. Corn masa is inherently gluten-free, and Veracruz grinds and presses their tortillas fresh. The result is that virtually every taco on the menu is GF by default.
- 100% corn masa tortillas: No wheat flour in any tortilla. Handmade fresh daily from nixtamalized corn.
- Fresh ingredients throughout: Eggs, meats, vegetables, beans, cheese, avocado β straightforward, whole-food ingredients with minimal processing.
- House-made salsas: Fresh-made tomato and tomatillo salsas are naturally GF.
- No shared fryer issues: Veracruz doesn't rely on deep frying for most items β grilled, scrambled, and fresh preparations throughout.
- Vegetarian and vegan options: Bean and cheese, potato, cactus, and other plant-based tacos β all GF.
Cross-Contamination Note: Veracruz is not a certified GF facility. The kitchen is a high-volume environment handling many orders simultaneously. For people with extremely severe celiac, it's worth asking staff about preparation practices. For most GF diners and the majority of celiac patients, community reports are very positive.

The Migas Taco: What Makes It Special
The migas taco is what built Veracruz's reputation. Migas β eggs scrambled with torn corn tortilla chips, tomato, onion, and jalapeΓ±o β is a classic Tex-Mex breakfast dish. Veracruz's version adds Oaxacan cheese and fresh avocado, wraps it in a handmade corn tortilla, and finishes it with house salsa. It's rich, textured, and satisfying in a way that most breakfast tacos aren't.
For GF diners: this is one of the few breakfast dishes where the crispy component (the chips in the migas) is made from corn, not wheat. The entire taco is naturally GF. It's also one of the most photographed tacos in Austin, which is saying something.
