The Short Answer
Yes — all of it, and it is vegan too. In their own words, everything they make is gluten-free and vegan. That covers the bakery case, the breakfast and lunch menu, and the ice cream. There is nothing here you need to ask about.
About Gati Cafe
Gati started as vegan ice cream and grew into something harder to categorize: a coffee shop, a bakery, an ice cream counter and, since August 2025, a full breakfast and lunch kitchen.
The kitchen menu came out of Chef Jam's travels and pulls flavors from Oaxaca to Thailand to Australia, which is not the usual register for a gluten-free menu. The ice cream is coconut-milk based, with rotating flavors that have included tamarind candy, Thai tea and pandan leaf. Coffee comes from local roaster Greater Goods.
It is on Holly Street in East Austin, open every day until 10pm — the most reliable late-evening option on this list by a wide margin.
Gluten-Free at Gati Cafe
Everything Gati makes is gluten-free and vegan. Their own phrasing is the clearest statement of it: “gluten-free and vegan, like everything we make.”
The breakfast and lunch menu is 100% gluten-free. So is the bakery case, and so is the ice cream. Nothing on the premises contains gluten, which makes this one of the simplest places in Austin to eat if you are managing both restrictions, or feeding a group where somebody is.
One thing to ask about: the bakery case includes oatmeal cream pies. Certified gluten-free oats are safe for most celiacs, but a small percentage react to avenin, the oat protein itself. If that is you, oats will not be flagged as an allergen — ask specifically.
What to Order
From the bakery: coffee cake, muffins, oatmeal cream pies and brownies, available daily.
From the kitchen: breakfast and lunch, served Monday to Friday until 2pm and until 3pm at weekends. Globally-drawn rather than the usual gluten-free substitutions.
The ice cream: coconut-milk based, flavors rotating. Collaborations with local pastry chefs turn up periodically.
Custom orders: Gati takes special orders for gluten-free cakes, cupcakes and celebration items from its production bakery — one of only a handful of places in Austin that can do a birthday or wedding cake from a fully dedicated kitchen.
Hours & Practical Notes
The shop and the kitchen keep different hours. The shop is open every day 8am–10pm, but the kitchen closes at 2pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends. Arrive after that and you can still get baked goods, coffee and ice cream — just not breakfast or lunch.
Order custom cakes well ahead. Dedicated kitchens have limited capacity and the popular dates go first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gati Cafe entirely gluten-free?
Yes, and vegan. In their own words, everything they make is gluten-free and vegan — the bakery case, the breakfast and lunch menu, and the ice cream.
Can I get breakfast at Gati any time it is open?
No, and this catches people out. The shop is open every day from 8am to 10pm, but the kitchen closes at 2pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends. After that you can still get baked goods, coffee and ice cream, but not a hot meal.
Does Gati make gluten-free birthday cakes?
Yes. Gati takes special orders for gluten-free cakes, cupcakes and celebration items from its production bakery. That makes it one of a small number of places in Austin that can supply a birthday or wedding cake from a fully dedicated kitchen. Order well ahead.
Is the ice cream dairy-free?
Yes. It is coconut-milk based and vegan, like everything else Gati makes. Flavors rotate and have included tamarind candy, Thai tea and pandan leaf.
